In a surprising move today, David Heinemeier Hansson announced that Merb is being merged into Rails 3. Yehuda Katz will be joining the Rails team and other key members of the Merb team are also taking on new roles, as defined (and photo-illustrated) on the Rails Blog.
Of course, since work is still being done on Rails 2.3, this exciting venture isn't necessarily right around the corner, but it's a great way to bring together the two communities, end some turf wars and avoid duplication of efforts.
