What's New With Yahoo? Yahoo! User Interface Library 2.6.0

Thursday October 2, 2008

Ebay does it, Flickr does it, Amazon does it, YouTube does it and now you can too. Yesterday, Yahoo! released version 2.6.0 of the YUI library which, among other cool new features, includes the YUI Carousel Control widget. The widget allows for the addition of a user "browse panel" (for lack of a more sophisticated and descriptive layman's term) of objects.

You know the widget I mean; it's on eBay and Amazon or pretty much anywhere else you shop online. It's the panel at the bottom of the screen which shows you the seller's other items. You can either watch them scroll through or use the arrows to view at your own pace. Essentially it's a slide show of objects and, Ruby being a language of objects, this is good news if you've been building your blog or website with Ruby.

The new YUI widget allows you to add a horizontal or vertical panel to any page to display like objects. Not only that but it provides for lazy-loading of content via Ajax. That's the basis for a pretty fancy slideshow!

In any event, if you haven't begun to integrate the YUI Library into your blog, with this new release, it's a great time to start. We'll even show you how.
