Session Data

By Amanda & Michael Morin, About.com

Definition:

Session Data - A collection of variables stored on the server and associated with a user. For example, Alice logs into a web site. The web site assigns Alice a session ID and associates a number of variables stored in the database with this ID. When Alice makes future requests to this website, she also give the web server her session ID, so the web application can retrieve and use the stored session data.
