When you run the Installer, you'll be asked where you want to install the program and where you want to install your databases. Anywhere that suits you is fine, but I prefer to leave these at their defaults.
Once the installer finishes, you'll be given a opportunity to configure the server. Be sure to set a root password here, you'll need that later. Also, you'll be asked if you want to run the database server as a service.
