Regular expressions get real hairy, real fast.  There's no getting around it, or is there?  Ruby's regular expression engine (called oniguruma) supports a feature called "named capture groups" that, combined with extended regular expressions, allows you to create very interesting parser-like regular expressions that can clearly parse structured text.
