Celebrate Software Freedom Day on Saturday, September 19th
Most Rubyists are already aware of the benefits of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS), as not only is Ruby itself open source, but there are also large numbers of open-source projects powered by Ruby and Ruby on Rails. OpenStreetMap, Net:SSH and
wxRuby, to name a few, spring to mind.
Celebrating FOSS may not be something you ordinarily think of doing, but it's the goal of Software Freedom Day this Saturday, September 19, 2009. SFD is a worldwide event aimed at educating the general public about the benefits of using open-source software in all realms of life. All across the world, teams will be putting on events ranging from lectures to BBQs to installation parties.
Check out the interactive map to see if there's an event scheduled near you or, if there isn't, consider creating and registering your own event. For more information about open source projects using Ruby and Ruby on Rails, check out the RubyForge and Open Source Rails websites.
