2008 Voting Is Over...Here Are the Rails Rumble Winners!

Friday November 7, 2008

With the Presidential election in the foreground this week, it nearly slipped my mind that the winners of Rails Rumble 2008 have been selected! With so many incredible applications, I'm sure it was hard for judges to select just a few as favorites. Here are the overall winners and a brief synopsis of each application.

  1. Meet In Between (Great Lakes Geeks): An innovative application that allows you to enter in a number of addresses and find a place somewhere in the middle to hook up with friends from afar.
  2. Qflip (Scatapult): This one is for the brave and indecisive. Interface with your Netflix account, allow strangers to vote on 5 movies from your queue and then use those results to change the order of the queue.
  3. riverdex (New Media Logic): This application uses data from the US Geological Survey to provide up-to-date flow information and historical information on "every runnable river in the country." Though at present information is only available for the waters of Idaho, this application has the potential to be a boater's dream come true.
  4. As noted, these are just the overall winners of the Rumble. Tomorrow we'll devote some space to the category winners.
